Maria João Durão
About me
Professor in the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon since 2001, where she has also directed the Master's Degree in Color in Architecture since 2002. Her academic work includes teaching and supervising postgraduate studies at various European institutions, including the Master's Degree in Museology at the Lusófona University (2000), the Master's Degree in Building Environment Assessment for Sustainability at the University of Salford (2001), and the Master's Degree in Design at the FA-LTU (since 2002).
She has been an assistant professor and deputy director of the Diploma in Product and Spatial Design, as well as Communication Design at the Lusófona University of Lisbon (1998-2000), and deputy director of the Bachelor's Degree in Graphic, Product, and Interior Design at the Instituto Superior de Humanidades e Tecnologías de Lisbon (1994-1998).
Her research focuses on color in the built environment, and she coordinates various projects from the Faculty of Architecture's ColourLab. She has been Vice President for Portugal of the International Color Association and President of the Portuguese Color Association since 2005. She has also worked as a consultant and designer since 2003.
She holds a PhD from the University of Salford (Manchester, UK, 2000) and a BA in Fine Arts, specializing in Painting, from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon (1988/1991).
