I am a Full Professor in the Department of Electronics at the University of Alcalá and the principal investigator of the RobeSafe (Robotics and eSafety Research Group). I hold a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (1995) and a Ph.D. from the University of Alcalá (1999). Since the beginning of my career, I have focused on research, teaching, and technology transfer in the field of artificial intelligence applied to intelligent vehicles.

My research activity covers areas such as computer vision, perception for autonomous vehicles, ADAS systems, and driver behavior monitoring. I lead research projects in collaboration with companies in the sector such as Indra, Acciona, Ferrovial, FICOSA, and Huawei, as well as with leading research centers.

I have published over 300 scientific papers, supervised more than 15 doctoral theses, and actively participated in international networks and consortia. I am currently a Senior Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems journal. In 2024 and 2025, I was recognized as a national leader in the discipline of Computer Science by Research.com.

In the academic field, I teach courses in the Bachelor’s Degrees in Computer Engineering, Electronic Communications Engineering, and Telecommunication Technologies Engineering, as well as in the Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering and the Ph.D. program in Electronics. I deeply enjoy educating new generations of engineers and researchers.

Outside the academic environment, I am passionate about nature, auteur cinema and video editing, cooking, and spending time with my family and friends.
