Simone Dalle Fabbriche

About me

Simone is currently conducting research at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid as a predoctoral student in the Plasmas and Electric Propulsion group (EP2). His research focuses on electric propulsion, a technology that offers numerous advantages over traditional chemical propulsion: it requires much less propellant, enables longer missions, and, thanks to its high efficiency, is especially suitable for deep space exploration.

In this context, the goal of his research is to gain a detailed understanding of the complex physics occurring inside radio-frequency ion thrusters (RITs), analyzing how design choices affect engine performance. In particular, he aims to identify the physical limits of the system using advanced numerical models. Simone studied aerospace engineering at the University of Bologna (UNIBO), earning his bachelor’s degree in 2019 and his master’s degree in 2022. He began his PhD at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in May 2023. Alongside his professional career, he has various interests, including volleyball, swing music,
piano, and Lindy Hop. And, as a true Italian, he also knows how to cook pizza.
