Victoria Martín Santiago

About me

Victoria Martín Santiago is a first year Ph.D. student in the Epigenetics of Lipid Metabolism research group headed by Dr. Alberto Dávalos at IMDEA Nutrition Institute. Her thesis work focuses on the study of the metabolic and epigenetic effects derived from the consumption of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) nanoplastics. Her current activity includes the preparation and characterisation of PET nanoparticles, both from pure polymer and from commercial bottles. Also, the study of their bioavailability and in-vitro effects. In the coming months, models such as intestinal organoids and C57BL/6 mice will be used to evaluate markers of oxidative stress, inflammation and enzyme activity. In addition, possible epigenetic changes associated with chronic consumption of these nanoparticles will be analysed.
