In this interactive activity for children from 6 to 12 years old, we will build a stethoscope using simple and recycled materials (balloons, plastic tubes, and used bottles), which participants can take home. With it, we will explore the sound of our own heartbeat, learning in a fun and hands-on way about heart rate at rest and after exercise, as well as its importance for our health. Participants will then observe a life-size human model to see how our circulatory system works, how blood reaches the heart, and how circulation disorders can lead to certain conditions, such as atherosclerosis. We will also have the opportunity to see what our blood looks like when it contains an excess of fat. These visualizations will help participants understand why it is essential to avoid a sedentary lifestyle and maintain healthy eating habits from an early age in order to prevent cardiovascular diseases.
