My name is Jorge Barbero Barroso, and I like to believe that I’ve fulfilled the dream of the child who once longed to dedicate his life to uncovering the past—having the privilege today of turning that passion into a profession. Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Ancient History at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where my research focuses on secret diplomacy in the context of Roman Republican expansion between the 3rd and 1st centuries BCE. They say ours is a solitary craft, a world of libraries and silence. And while there’s some truth to that, what I love most about being an aspiring historian is the constant opportunity to immerse myself in the study of the past—and, just as importantly, to share that knowledge with others through teaching and public outreach.
