About me

I am a teacherr of Cell Biology at the Autonomous University of Madrid. In our lab, we study how sex chromosomes have changed throughout evolution and how they are passed from one generation to the next through a special type of cell division called meiosis. We have conducted research on mice, gerbils, voles, opossums, kangaroos, and even the platypus. Each species has its own quirks, but we’ve discovered that chromosomes influence how meiosis happens, and meiosis, in turn, shapes the evolutionary path of sex chromosomes. It’s a beautiful love story!

I really enjoy thinking about science’s big questions: how the universe began, how to reconcile relativity with quantum theory, how life originated and how major transitions in its history occurred, how we might reverse climate change, what the future holds with artificial intelligence… But since I don’t have answers to many of these, I keep myself busy with DIY projects around the house, reading, or walking in nature. I love foraging for wild fruits in autumn and making homemade jams.
