About me
I'm an Associate Professor of Histology in the Department of Cell Biology and Histology at the Complutense University of Madrid. My field is neuroscience, so I teach nervous tissue histology to medical students.
When it comes to research, I focus on studying neurodegenerative diseases, looking for potential treatments to help fight these conditions.
A few years ago, I realized how important it is to communicate science to the public, so I started getting involved in science outreach. You can hear me on Spanish National Radio, Radio Aragón, COPE, and various podcasts; see me on TV; or read my articles on platforms like The Conversation. I'm also active on social media—on X (@DrAstrocyte), Bluesky (@DrAstrocito), and Instagram (@DrAstrocito).
Working in a research lab is a lot like cooking: you follow a recipe to get results. That’s probably why I also love cooking at home, often experimenting with fun and original dishes. I love water—so whether it’s the beach, a lake, a pool, or a reservoir, I’m happy. And metaphorically speaking, I also tend to dive headfirst into every puddle I find—especially the messy ones!
