A science outreach activity was conducted in celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with children aged 6-7. The objective was to introduce the scientific community from the perspective of two geologists whose research group is led and predominantly composed of women, focusing on the study of soil and water. Taking advantage of the school's own garden, the activity was carried out in two parts. The first part consisted of a theoretical introduction to the scientific method, using a practical example related to soil science and gardening. In the second part, an experiment was conducted with various soil samples. The children collected the samples, sieved them, mixed them with water, and analyzed their nutrient content (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium) using colorimetric test kits to determine which soil had the highest nutrient levels and was, therefore, the most suitable for planting in the garden. Activity carried out with the support of grant PTA2020-019363-I funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by ESF Investing in your future).
