Iván Fernández de Lamo
About me
Graduate in Biochemistry from the Autonomous University of Madrid (2004). PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine (2009) from the same University. He completed his doctoral thesis in the laboratory of Dr. Ana Guadaño Ferraz at the “Alberto Sols” Biomedical Research Institute, a joint CSIC-UAM center. Where he studied the role of thyroid hormones on hippocampal neurogenesis and its relationship with learning and memory in adult rats.
He completed 3 postdoctoral stays. The first in the laboratory of Jose María Delgado García and Agnès Gruart (2009-2012) in the Neurosciences Division of the Pablo de Olavide University in Seville, where he analyzed the activity of different cortical and subcortical regions related to instrumental learning using in vivo behavioral and electrophysiology techniques. From 2012 to 2015, she completed her second postdoctoral period in the laboratory of Dr. Diego Contreras at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, United States, studying the thalamocortical communication of the visual system of cats, as well as the propagation of epileptiform waves in the visual cortex. Finally, from 2015 to 2018, in the Neural Circuits laboratory of Dr. Liset Menedez de la Prida at the Cajal Institute of Madrid (CSIC), she conducted electrophysiological studies of neuronal communication in the hippocampus of rats, and its implications in the propagation of epileptiform activity in models of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. The scientific production of her scientific career consists of 14 articles, 2 book chapters and numerous publications and presentations at national and international conferences within the field of Neuroscience. He has been recognized with 2 six-year research periods and the accreditation as a Contracted Professor and Professor of a Private University by the National Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation (ANECA).
He currently coordinates the subjects of Structure and Function of the Human Body in the Degree of Pharmacy, and Structure and Function of Systems I (Nervous System and Endocrine System) in the Degree of Biomedicine. He has participated in different teaching innovation projects within the University, as well as in scientific dissemination projects.
During the teaching period he has tutored and has been a member of the committee of different Final Degree Projects and has been a member of the committee for the defense of Doctoral Thesis.
He likes reading, cinema and nature in general, practices different racket sports and is a member of the Tennis Federation of Madrid.
