Manuel Afecto Gonçalves
About me
I am a Portuguese Young Researcher, currently doing a PhD in Chemical and Environmental Engineering at IMDEA Energía and the University of Valladolid. My field of research focuses on the valorisation of organic waste, especially food waste, through anaerobic processes. Through these methods, I am specialising in the production of high value-added products or energy.
My academic background has been instrumental in developing my interest and experience in waste utilisation, with the constant ambition to generate value from waste. I studied a degree in Genetics and Biotechnology in Vila Real, Portugal, where I worked in plant micropropagation. Subsequently, I obtained a Master's degree in Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology in Aveiro, Portugal, specialising in alcoholic fermentation from paper industry waste.
Outside of research, I love gastronomy. I am passionate about trying new flavours and learning to cook them myself. I also have a desire to travel the world to meet new people, cultures and, of course, cuisines.
You can find me on LinkedIn and feel free to get in touch.
