Our cells are coated by an external membrane, the plasma membrane, made up of lipids, biomolecules that are insoluble in water. Changes in the lipid composition of this membrane are associated with cellular damage in the brains of Alzheimer's disease patients. During this activity, practical examples will be shown to understand how lipid composition affects the biophysics of cell membranes and how we are able to visualize lipids in the brains of murine models in the laboratory.
