Iame Alves Guedes

About me

I am currently responsible for the Microbial Ecology Unit at IMDEA Water. From an early age, I have been deeply interested in natural environments, particularly aquatic ones. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Biology (Ecology) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), where I studied magnetotatic bacteria and cyanobacterial blooms. During my Master’s and PhD studies, I further deepened my knowledge of aquatic microbial communities. After completing my PhD, I moved to Wageningen, a small city in the Netherlands, where I continued working with microorganisms, focusing on distinct microbiologic techniques.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my kids, family, and friends. I love cooking, baking, and traveling, especially to warm, beach destinations.
