About me

My name is Sara Marcos Herraiz, and I am a research assistant in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health and Microbiology at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). I studied Biochemistry at the UAM and I did my final thesis at the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (CBMSO), researching on the molecular basis of Propionic Acidemia in cellular models differentiated from iPSCs.
Currently I work in the area of parasitology, in the study and characterization of sensitive and resistant strains to conventional treatment of Giardia Duodenalis, Trichomonas Gallinae and Leishmania Infantum. The research is mainly focused on the characterization of these strains and the search for new effective antiparasitic products as a solution to the increase in the appearance of these resistant strains.
Besides science, I enjoy spending my free time with my friends and family. My main hobbies are sports, movies and music, these are my escape routes and my way to disconnect. I love to go jogging and when possible to go to see live music.
