About me

Elena Márquez Segura is a Beatriz Galindo Distinguished Researcher in the DEI group at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Her multidisciplinary work spans Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, embodied design, and Games and Play design. She explores how technology can support physical and social action through immersive experiences and embodied design methods that integrate movement and somatic awareness.
She has a Ph.D. and Licentiate in HCI (Uppsala and Stockholm University), Master’s studies in Interaction Design (KTH, Sweden), and undergraduate and graduate degrees in Telecommunication Engineering (Seville, Spain). Her background in fitness disciplines adds a unique somatic lens to her research.
Márquez Segura is active in public engagement and education, teaching at UC3M and abroad, giving invited talks, collaborating with industry and public institutions, and organizing summer schools and workshops for the population at large, like during the yearly Science Weeks in Madrid. Her embodied methods have been adopted in health, education, and the arts.
Her research bridges science, design, somatic practice, and technology to enable meaningful, body-aware interactions. In her free time, she enjoys creative, dynamic activities, playing and moving with both children and adults.
