About me

Senior Lecturer and researcher in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences. Currently, I am an Associate Professor at the European University of Madrid and the principal coordinator of the DATAFOOT research group. My work focuses on the study and analysis of sports, with a particular emphasis on football and team sports, within a holistic approach encompassing health, performance, and management areas. My doctoral thesis focused on assessing the influence of sports surfaces on the injury risk of football players, marking the beginning of a research line that remains active to this day. The scientific dissemination of this research has led to the publication of numerous scientific articles, books, and even the acquisition of funding through competitive projects at both national and international levels. This sports-focused line of work has allowed me to coordinate the International Research Network on Women and Refereeing (REFEREENET), which includes over 60 researchers from 12 different universities. The latest advancements in our research have enabled us to apply Big Data and Artificial Intelligence to the world of football, providing a qualitative leap in research within this field. Additionally, I serve as a reviewer and editor for numerous high-impact international journals and have received the National Award granted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport.

I am fortunate to share interests and hobbies with my work areas. Currently, I serve as the coordinator of the physical area for football referees and collaborate with international organizations to develop football globally. Additionally, in my free time, I enjoy playing the sport and staying active on a daily basis.
