On the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Scientific Culture Unit and the Equality Commission of the RJB-CSIC organize a collaboration with the Equality Commission of the CID, IDAEA and IQAC Barcelona (CSIC) . The project encourages debate around the representation in audiovisual fiction spaces of women as active agents of knowledge and science.
The activity will be aimed at secondary school students, especially 4th ESO and Baccalaureate. The documentary "Let them invent: the woman of science and knowledge in Spanish cinema" will be screened, which reviews the representation of women of science throughout the history of Spanish fiction cinema between 1896, the date in which the cinematographer reaches the country, and 2020. A century and a quarter of history, representation and art that stands as a large celluloid mirror capable of reflecting how the woman of knowledge has been seen (or hidden), perceived (or belittled) and subjectivized (or objectified ) for the most impactful and influential cultural artifact of our time. Next, there will be a discussion in three shifts led by Fernando del Blanco Rodríguez, author of the book “The Blind Angle. History of the representation of women of science and knowledge in Spanish cinema (1896-2020)”
