About me

I obtained his undergraduate degree as a Chemist (2012) at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), Brazil. In 2014 he obtained his Master's degree and 2018 PhD in Science, mention in Physical Chemistry from the aforementioned university. During his PhD he obtained a Fulbright scholarship at the University of Cincinnati, USA, where he worked in Prof. D. Dionysiou's group for 10 months. He also completed a 1-month internship at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain, under the supervision of Prof. J. Casas. He worked (2018-2023) as a postdoctoral researcher at UFAL, under a PNPD/CAPES fellowship. His research work has focused on the development of environmental remediation technologies, including: i) synthesis of adsorbents (biochar; layered double hydroxides) and their application for CEC removal and oil spill management; ii) fabrication of new photocatalysts for Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP), Advanced Electrochemical Oxidation Processes (EAOP) applied to a wide spectrum of wastewaters, iii) process integration and intensification. He has a solid experience with advanced analytical methods for water quality analysis, such as chromatographic methods (HPLC, IC, LC-MS) and material characterisation (XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, cyclic voltammetry). Currently, Leandro is working as a Postdoctoral researcher with a UNA4CAREER grant, from the European Horizon 2020 programme for research and innovation under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions grant agreement, which he is developing in the Chemical and Environmental Processes Intensification Group (INPROQUIMA) at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), under the direction of Dr. Aurora Santos.
