The Doppelgänger, a double threat with a death drive, is a constant in popular culture and art history. The thesis presents the Doppelgänger as an artistic typology with its own entity today. Through the study of authors and works, some backbone elements are detected: search for the ominous, pictorial tendency, fragmented narration, staging, multiplication of the subject, and complex underlying psychological factors.
