In this activity, the students will learn about herpesviruses and endogenous human retroviruses, and their involvement in autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis. In addition, we will conduct a practical case study: we will attempt to determine if our patient is being infected by a herpesvirus. To do this, we will perform an ELISA (to detect antibodies against this herpesvirus) and a qPCR (to detect its DNA).
