About me

Hello! I’m Sonia Wagner Reguero, a researcher at the Biomarkers, Biochemistry, and Molecular Genetics Laboratory of Fundación CIEN (Center for Research on Neurodegenerative Diseases). Our work focuses on identifying biochemical markers associated with neurodegenerative diseases, within a multidisciplinary environment that integrates basic researchers, clinicians, neuropathologists, and neuroradiologists. This approach allows us to validate potential biomarkers from various integrative areas of precision medicine.

I hold a PhD in Biology with an Industrial specialization, though my educational background is in Biochemistry, and I have a Master’s in Microbiology. Over the course of more than 10 years in research, I have worked in various fields. My first foray was in my undergraduate thesis (TFG), where I investigated new genetic variants related to celiac disease. Later, in my Master’s thesis (TFM), I focused on the production of defective viruses. I then delved into 3D cellular models of intestinal organoids in colorectal cancer, and my industrial PhD focused on the possible applications of a novel food in metainflammatory diseases from the perspective of precision nutrition.

I consider myself a dynamic and proactive person. Among my passions is attending all kinds of events, from neighborhood or town festivals to themed events and scientific outreach activities. I love talking about science. I also enjoy mountain hikes, playing paddle tennis, and recently, I’ve been getting into indoor climbing. All of this, of course, is with my loved ones and family by my side. I’m also an animal lover, especially my border collie, Toe, who accompanies me whenever possible. During my more relaxed free time, I’m interested in fashion, keeping up with trends, and making good use of social media.

Come and learn all about what we do at Fundación CIEN!
