About me

Estanislao Nistal-Villan, born in Toral de los Guzmanes, León. He obtained his degree in Biochemistry at the University of Salamanca. In 2004 he was admitted to the PhD programme at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. In 2005 he joined the laboratory of Dr. Adolfo García-Sastre in the Department of Microbiology, focusing on molecular characterisation studies controlling IFN-β induction in response to viral infections, particularly influenza infections. In 2010 he began his postdoctoral studies at the CIMA of the University of Navarra in the laboratory of Gloria González Aseguinolaza, developing different models based on IFN regulation and inflammation. Since 2015 he has been a lecturer in the Microbiology section of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the CEU San Pablo University in Madrid. He is Full Professor and leads the Virology and Innate Immunity research group. His team's current work focuses on the characterisation of unconventional mechanisms of interferon (IFN) induction and innate immunity during influenza virus infections and in particular the inflammatory response caused by secondary bacterial infections associated with influenza.
