PhD in Environmental Sciences from Lund University (2012-2016), where he worked with nature-based solutions to mitigate toxic cyanobacterial blooms in lakes. After his thesis (2016-2018), he coordinated an experimental infrastructure in Scandinavian lakes at the University of Uppsala, SITES AquaNet. During 2018-2023 he led several projects funded by Swedish Research Councils, with stays at the Universities of Uppsala, Lund, Oldenburg and the Helmholtz Institute for Marine Functional Biodiversity (HIFMB). He worked on cross-cutting issues such as ecological stability, global change, or aquatic-terrestrial linkages. In parallel, he collaborated in multiple projects of global relevance from the Global Lake Observatory Network, Europonds, or the European Multi-Lake Survey, as well as with the public-industrial sector to support the management of toxic cyanobacterial blooms in lakes using state-of-the-art technologies.
His research at IMDEA Water centers on understanding causes and consequences of biodiversity change, with an emphasis on how water quality degradation affects the functioning of both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems (e.g., pollinator communities).
Pablo enjoys sports (crossfit, climbing, cycling and running), hiking and beekeeping.
