Lisa Pokorny Montero
About me
I'm Lisa Pokorny, a botanist and evolutionary biologist. I studied Biological Sciences at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), where I also obtained the (formerly) Diploma of Advanced Studies (now Master) in Evolutionary Biology and Biodiversity, with scholarships for both the Third Cycle of the UAM and University Teacher Training ( FPU) of the then MECD. Thanks to a scholarship from the Fulbright Commission in Spain and the Ramón Areces Foundation (FRA), I completed my doctorate at Duke University (Durham, North Carolina, USA). After obtaining my PhD in Biology, I returned to Spain, where I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Royal Botanical Garden (RJB-CSIC, Madrid). I then worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBGK; Richmond, GB), at the Center for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP UPM-INIA/CSIC; Pozuelo de Alarcón) and at the Barcelona Botanical Institute (IBB CSIC -CMCNB), also as a postdoctoral researcher. I am currently a Ramón y Cajal researcher at the RJB-CSIC, where I study the evolution of plants and fungi using molecular genomic methods and high-performance computing. Among other hobbies, I love reading, traveling, visiting museums, walking in the countryside, going to the movies and the theater, all in the company of my friends.
