I carry out my teaching and research work in the Microbiology Section of the CEU San Pablo University. I have a PhD in Pharmacy and I have always had a special interest in bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
When I finished my studies I did a stay at the University Hospital of Nantes (France) where I did my Bachelor´s Thesis on the resistance of Escherichia coli to beta-lactamase inhibitors.
Subsequently, I did my PhD Thesis at the CEU San Pablo University. In my thesis work I characterised the antibiotic resistance profiles of different non-typhi Salmonella isolates from wildlife as well as the mechanisms of resistance at the molecular level to determine whether they were the same as those described in human clinical practice. I also carried out the phenotypic and genotypic characterisation of the strains. This part of the research was carried out almost entirely at the National Reference Laboratory for Salmonella (Centro Nacional de Microbiología- Instituto de Salud Carlos III) where I spent a year as a researcher.
I am currently involved in studies of antibiotic resistance in intestinal microbiota as well as metagenomics.
I also participate in resistance studies of Staphylococcus aureus, especially through small colony variants (SCV).
In my spare time I enjoy reading, especially related to anthropology, philosophy and history. I love listening to music and walking.
