About me

Professor Emilio Ambrosio Flores is Professor of Psychobiology and Principal Investigator of the Psychobiology of Addictions Group at the UNED. For more than three decades, he has been trying to contribute to the advancement in the knowledge of the psychobiological mechanisms that may be operating in drug dependence and, more particularly, in the greater vulnerability that some people may present, compared to others, to the positive reinforcing effects of psychostimulants, alcohol, cannabinoids and opiates. To carry out this task, his research group has mainly used an animal model of drug addiction, the methodology of intravenous self-administration of drugs, accompanied by other behavioural tests and different neurobiological procedures (quantitative and functional receptor autoradiography, in situ hybridisation, immunocytochemistry and immunology, neuromorphology, electrophysiology, microdialysis, molecular biology, etc.), in order to try to unravel the complexity of addictive behaviour. Also, for more than two decades, he has been teaching Psychobiology of Addictions in several official degrees (Bachelor's, Bachelor's, Master's...) at the UNED and, in his research group, he has trained new national and international teachers and PhDs. In addition, he has published numerous scientific papers in prestigious journals and has received national awards and international recognition for his research activity in the field of addictions.
