María José Irisarri Gutiérrez
About me
I am a biologist and parasitologist. Currently, I work as Assistant Professor at the Department of Preventive Medicine, Public Health and Microbiology of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
My passion for science has led me to explore the fascinating world of parasites. In my research I study the role of these beings in epidemiology, malnutrition and how to combat them with natural products.
I have had the opportunity to live unique experiences working in the field and in international cooperation, seeing tropical parasitic diseases in countries such as Brazil, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau and Rwanda. This has allowed me to learn, research and try to contribute to the fight against these diseases.
Beyond the laboratory and the classroom, I love nature and discovering new cultures. In my free time I enjoy drawing, knitting or immersing myself in a good book.
