Juan Ignacio López Carbonero
About me
I am a neurologist and predoctoral researcher. I graduated in Medicine from the Complutense University of Madrid (2010-2016). I did my specialised health training as a Resident Medical Intern in Neurology at the Hospital Universitario Fundación Alcorcón (Madrid) (2017-2021). In October 2022 I started my PhD in Research in Medical and Surgical Sciences at the UCM, and in January 2023 I joined the Hospital Clínico San Carlos as an Area Specialist in the area of Cognitive Neurology and Dementias. My doctoral thesis project deals with the role of lipid metabolism and previous lifestyle in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia, as well as the development of a cellular biomarker based on TDP-43 proteinopathy for early diagnosis and in vivo differentiation of the pathological subtypes of the disease, to try to achieve a personalised medicine. My work focuses on clinical assessment of patients, neuropsychological studies and interpretation of clinical, molecular, metabolic, cognitive and genetic data. Outside of work my main hobby is music, I am a composer and a member of a symphonic choir.
