My name is Paula Redondo Hasselerharm, I have a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Autonomous University of Madrid and a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of Wageningen (Holland). I am currently working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Ecotoxicology group of IMDEA Agua, where I study the effects of micronanoplastics in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. I decided to take a degree in biology because I was passionate about the subject of Earth Sciences, where we already learnt about the problems derived from global warming and the introduction of anthropogenic pollutants into the environment. During the degree, I enjoyed the Limnology subject the most and decided to do my final degree project at the Water Institute of Granada. It was here where my interest in research arose after carrying out a series of experiments in the Sierra Nevada and the Ruidera lakes, where I assessed the effects of climate change on aquatic communities. Afterwards, I did a research internship in the Ecotoxicology group at the University of Amsterdam (Holland) where I evaluated the effects of micronanoplastics on phytoplankton. I did my doctoral thesis on the effects of micronanoplastics on benthic freshwater communities in the Aquatic Ecology and Water Quality Management group at Wageningen University. Outside of work you will find me making ceramic pieces, taking photos, traveling, and enjoying the culture of the city of Madrid.
