The TJ-II project is the flagship of the National Fusion Laboratory. TJ-II is a medium size flexible heliac type stellarator and is currently the second largest stellarator in operation in Europe (behind W7-X). It is one of the reference facilities in Europe in fusion research as a future source of energy. The objective of the project is the study of the physics of magnetically confined plasmas, with an emphasis on the impact of the magnetic configuration on the transport of heat and particles. These studies should contribute significantly to international efforts to develop magnetic confinement fusion as an energy source.
